Do you know how to check the oil and water in your car? Maintain your vehicle's tyre pressure? Inspect your brake hoses? Change a wiper blade? If you answered no to any of these questions, you are not alone, according to the crew at Pitchix. Pitchix was founded in Auckland two years ago after realising that many of people don't have a clue when it comes to the basics of car maintenance. Have you ever wondered why you paid so much for a seemingly simple job? This is a really common "yes" and we have all been there!

"It is really very easy and inexpensive to keep up the basic maintenance on your vehicle, and to know what to keep an eye on to prevent a major repair. Pitchix was designed to teach women the skills and confidence they need to become more independent when it comes to looking after their car."

The Pitchix course runs for around an hour and a quarter. A Pitchix representative can visit clients "in their own time, in their own space" and there are courses held in Onehunga at Mayne Automotive. Course attendees are taught a range of skills that they practice on their own vehicles. "participants are taught how to check their vehicle's oil and other vital fluid levels such as transmission and battery levels. We also go over how to check the air filter, brake hoses and CV boots and to jumpstart the car." We give our clients valuable advice on how to source their own parts to save money; what tools to carry in the car; and how to converse with a mechanic to ensure they are not 'taken for a ride' when their car does need a professional repair.

Pitchix has the backing of a number of large corporates and also supports a number of charities herself. Please check out our friends of Pitchix page too on this website, take the time to know our friends and if you are feeling generous... Please donate to Starship and to Kenzies Gift.

"the Pitchix crew feel that anyone who owns a business should give back to the community from which it is making money. It's about having a sense of community responsibility."
